The principle of joyful militancy is this: if our politics isn't liberating, if it can't change our lives in a positive way, if it doesn't make us grow, if it doesn't give us joy, there's something wrong with it. [...] This doesn't mean that political work can't cause suffering. But there is a difference between suffering because something you decide to do has painful consequences - like facing repression, seeing people who are important to you suffer - and sacrificing yourself, which means doing something against your will just because you think it's your duty. [...] Doing political work should be healing. It should give us strength, vision, increase our sense of solidarity and make us realize how much we depend on each other. Being able to politicize your own pain, to turn it into a source of knowledge, into something that connects you to other people - all of this has healing power.” (Silvia Federici, 2023)
